Matheran Tourism:

    Matheran is a small hill station in Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is Situated at an in the Western Ghats range, Matheran is one of the smallest hill stations in Maharashtra. Also known as ‘cutest little hill station of India.’ Matheran is at a distance of 94 km from Mumbai, 56 km from Lonavala and 122 km from Pune. The place always has a pleasant weather to enjoy during any time of the year, but its beauty gets added up during the season of rain and thunderstorm. Matheran, which means 'forest on the forehead', and the beautiful hill station is that it is eco-friendly declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest. 

    It is one of the very few places in the world that is vehicle free hill station. No any vehicles are allowed into Matheran town. Tourists to Matheran have to drive up to Dasturi Point (2.5 km) and reach Matheran by foot or pony. So, no rush of cars and buses honking on the street. Matheran is idyllic old-world era of red-soiled roads, automobile-free pathways, and lush green hills all around. There are a number of lookout points that provide spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valley, it’s making it the perfect weekend getaway.

    The truth is that almost all the points offer pretty good sunrise, sunset, mountain and valley views, so walk or horse ride or take a rickshaw to whichever you prefer. Remember that the more popular points will be crowded, especially at sunset. Watch out for the aggressive Matheran macaque monkeys who will not hesitate to snatch your belongings especially anything remotely resembling food!

    The best thing about this place is that it is like a quiet and relaxing place with no buzzing of horns and pollution and along with that it contains some mesmerizing & beautiful places. It is one of the top monsoon destinations in Maharashtra, also among popular hill places to visit near Mumbai & Pune for a weekend trip. There is an entry fees of Rs. 50/- for adult visitors and Rs. 25/- for children to Matheran.

    The very famous in Matheran is Matheran’s Hill Railway or Matheran Toy Train. The Matheran Hill Railway was built in 1907 and it covers a distance of 20 km. A narrow gauge railway line connects Matheran to Neral in the plains, it runs to Matheran about 4 times in a day from Neral. It is also known as Matheran Light Railway (MLR), is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Attraction in Matheran:

    As with any other hill station, Matheran is famous for its viewpoints. It has many viewpoints from where you can enjoy views of the Sahyadri mountain range. The most popular of them being Echo Point, Louisa Point, Alexander Point, Panorama Point, and Heart Point, Monkey Point, Sunrise and Sunset, Charlotte Lake Point, Honeymoon Point, One Tree Hill, Chowk Point, Khandala Point etc.
